Hey,

The Fällkniven DC4 I ordered just arrived in the mail, and now that I've got it in my hand I started to wonder.. The little hole in the diamond side, what *is* it for? It doesn't go all the way through, so it's not like I can hammer a small nail through it to keep it in place. I can't imagine it's just there for decoration, so what's the reason behind it? Anyone know?

Thanks for the info,

I just bought one of these, and I saw that too. I've also noticed similar holes on DMT's larger Duo-Sharp hones (two holes). Don't see any functional use for the end-user, but I'm thinking they might've been put there as alignment holes (for a guide pin, perhaps), to square up the alignment when the diamond plate is attached (glued) to the backing, in this case, to the ceramic stone.

Purely speculation, though. At any rate, I'm not worried about it.

Edit:
Just looked at Fallkniven's site ( http://www.fallkniven.com/misc/eng-sharp.htm ), and they also have diamond plates (minus the ceramic on the back side), which also have this hole at the corner. Sort of blows my previous theory (such that it is) about being there for attachment/alignment to the ceramic. May still be some sort of jig/guide hole, for some part of the manufacturing process. Who knows? Oh, well...

When I had mine I thought it might just be a plain diamond plate that they attached to the ceramic side. If that is the case the hole might be used for say a lanyard or keychain perhaps? That is my theory atleast.

that's an idea, i know the D4 exist without the ceramic but i've never handled one.

Probably to do with the manufacturing process of putting the diamond dust on.Maybe to hold it while it gets sprayed. I ignore it.

On the small DMT stones I drilled a small hole through the red plastic in the corner of mine to attach a lanyard for woods carry.
