Holes in Griptilian Blade Near Pivot

So I'm giving some of my blades a more thorough cleaning today before I touch up their edges and included is my 551-1702 Griptilian which I got second-hand a year or two back (in very good apparent condition). Anyhow, it's my first time opening up/removing the blade on this one to clean it, and upon removing the blade to clean around the pivot area/washers, I noticed that near the pivot hole of the blade are two small cavities that go completely through the blade.

I've disassembled more than a few Benchmades for cleaning and I don't recall any of my other knives having this trait, although this is my first and only Griptilian I've owned.

I'm not hugely bothered by it because the cavities are inside the area covered by the washers, although it does seem kind of odd and a place for grit and stuff to possibly collect I suppose. I made this post to get some thoughts on whether this is:

a) normal (again, first and only Griptilian)
b) if there are any major issues that could result from these holes/cavities

Picture for reference is attached.

I'm sure Benchmade will chime in, but it's common for companies to drill small holes like that to identify the blade steel during the manufacturing process, before the blades are laser marked. I'm 99% sure I've seen that on Benchmades, and I know I've seen it elsewhere.

Ahhh never even thought of that; that makes sense.

All perfectly normal.Notice them in my custom shop knives and LE in the high range steels.

Thanks for all the insight everyone; I'll change the title of the thread to reflect this.
