I've been fortunate enough through my life to never have to worry about where I'm going to sleep at night or where my next meal is going to come from. That being the case, I like to give back as much as I can. I usually do something armed forces related but I think that we can all agree that regardless of the charity it's always good to help those with less opportunity than ourselves.

Here is the rundown:

Knife up for grabs

-Spyderco Delica 4 Emerson OR a Spyderco Endura 4 Emerson. Your choice if you are the winner. The Endura has MINOR scuffs and is the standard dark blue color. The Delica is in like new condition and the scales have been dyed black. They have also both been sharpened to a nice convex edge. Neither has been carried more than five times. Both will ship in original boxes.

How to qualify

-In order to enter you have to donate to a charity of your choosing. Then you must post an image or screenshot of your confirmation screen or receipt with the dollar amount visible. It's not that I don't believe you guys, but to do this fairly an image is necessary.

The cut-off date will be December 27th and all of those who have posted validation of their donation will be entered into a raffle for the knife of your choosing. This means that a $1 donation is just as likely to win as a $50 donation, although it would be very appreciable if you gave as much as you can. I will make a post and contact the winner by new years day.

I'd love to give away something nicer but I just don't have the cash to do so. Maybe if this goes well we can get a donor for something nice next year

If the knife does not reach $50 (cumulatively) I'll just sell it and donate the proceeds.

Additional Notes

This isn't about getting a good deal. My hope is that we can come together as a community and give MUCH more than what this knife is worth to our respective charities of choice; judging by some of your collections this goal is easily obtainable. I encourage those not participating to cheer on those are so we can make the total contribution something we can all be proud of.

Even if you can only donate a small amount please post a picture so I can keep track of the aggregate. This is about giving, not winning.

These are usually fighting words around here but before you buy yourself the next blade think if that money would be better served going to a Marine coming home from Afghanistan without a leg or an arm, don't you think this would be a GREAT gift?

Thanks so much in advance, from me and those who you choose to help.

Charities

It would be awesome if everyone could post one or two of their favorite charities and possibly even links to their websites. One, to show everyone some new options; and two, to keep this thread on the first page for the masses to see.

If I had the money, I would do this in a heart beat.
I think this is an awesome idea.
Even if you don't get the knife/knives you get to give something to someone or a charity that needs it.
It's also a way to give to those who need it and get a little something in return for your kindness.

I don't have a pic, but I'll say that I donated $1.00 to the James Children's Cancer Center today, to hopefully get this started.

I think you have a great idea going here ,but rather than giving the "prize" to the highest donor ,how about letting it be a raffle where all are eligeable to win ,and you randomly choose a winners name from the donors. Not everyone can afford to donate the same amount and ,to many, the current rules might seem to favor those who can. A 5 dollar donation may be more meaningful than a 500 dollar donation depending on the donors situation.
With that being said ,and given the season, I am going to contribute approx 50.00 worth of unwrapped toys to the "Toys for Tots" foundation locally for some kids who aren't old enough to know that Mr. Claus is just a symbol.
I do this every year and don't even ask for a receipt. I hope your offer reaps benefits for many.

^^^ I agree that it should be a raffle as well.
Otherwise it will just be a battle of "Who Can Donate The Most?" Rather than "Give what you can to something you believe in to help as much as possible and have a chance to get a little something in return for your kindness."

I also agree that maybe $5 isn't a lot to donate but it can be very heartfelt and mean just as much as a $500 donation.

A humble suggestion: Your donation amount increases your chance of winning. It makes the game more exciting the more people donate. This is also the model for a lot of raffles.

Conducting it shouldn't be hard.

Assign everyone integers for every dollar donated. You can do this easily by following the posts in this thread in order and building a table as you go.
After December 27th, use Random.org's True Random Number Generator to draw a number.

Example:
Baine ($1) [0]
BladeChick ($5) [1-5]
Jeffwithaj ($50) [6-55]

True Random Number Generator [Min=0 Max=55]
The number 3 is drawn
BladeChick wins!

Still need an additional $19 donated for the knife to qualify for giveaway. Come on guys....

I didn't know how to post a screen shot, then my browser crashed. I did manage to copy and paste the details from the receipt though. I have a printout of the receipt that I can send if you need more proof. Thanks.

So it's not to people, but you said charity of choice...AARF is a local rescue group that takes in and fosters LOTS of dogs. They have saved the lives of many dogs and have not given up on dogs despite the fact that I have sometimes seen the same dog there for years at a time. I would adopt more dogs but I already have two and we barely have the room for those two as it is.

Here's my donation. I love AARF and have donated to them many times, this gave me just another great excuse to do so.
