Good afternoon. I have been thinking about getting a new ACSB whittler to play around with. (I miss the old Cocobolo that I sold awhile back. The one thing I don't miss though is the blade thickness near the edge.) I tend to favor flat grinds.

I was wondering what the pros or cons would be to making the master blade a hollow ground (like the Buck Stockman's etc.) instead of just flattening the blade to a more desirable thickness near the edge. I like the thickness at the spine(?) just not near the edge. Secondly, could you recommend anyone who could/would do this?

(I've done some searching around here and thought there was a post awhile back about doing this. I cant find it.)

Any and all insight would be much appreciated. THanks. Matt

Tom is a master at this. You won't be disappointed. His knives are top drawer as well.

The only tiny disadvantage I can think of is that you have to sacrifice the blade etch. That's a price I'd be willing to pay. I flat ground mine with a belt sander, but Tom does a much neater job.
