Hey guys,
I want to try my hand at a hollow grind, but the only grinder I have is a cheapo Craftsman 2x42. Is there an inexpensive standalone wheel setup I can try?
My funds are pretty limited right now.

I too have a 2x72 Craftsman. I remember seeing somewhere a jig that would simulate a large wheel that could attach to your platen.

A flat piece of wood was cut with a convex shape on one side and attached to the platen. Almost shaped like a half moon.

Does this make sense?

I have a 2x42 craftsman, and i was able to hollow grind some thin (3/4") knives, but this was my first attempt, and I dont really know much about it.

Here's my Stupid Cheap Massive Hollow Hawger :D:thumbup: :rolleyes:

I have maybe $25.00 in it! the wheel is 4 - 24" square pieces of 1/2" hardwood plywood. glued and screwed profusely. then the center is marked and drilled. a bolt is inserted in the hole, and a 12" string is attached, and an arc is struck to mark the corners. next jig saw or band saw the corners off. Go to a junkyard and find a 5-6 lug truck axel (the short shaft off a front 4WD is REALLY NICE) then drill your wheel center to accomodate the axel diameter. get ya a couple of pillow block bearings to match the diameter of the axle shaft. drill a 1" hole 2" from edge and cut a thin slot to the hole. a taper hole will hold the paper better than a traight hole but either will work. just put a tight fit pin in to hold the paper tight. add motor and pulleys... Use a wood lathe gouge to run in to true. Hope this helps!

Please excuse the mess... :thumbdn::o
