After flat grinding recurves etc on the 4.5 hp worn out grinder at work for the past few months, today I tried hollow grinding on my own (new) grinder. Am very happy with the results. :) Both of these are double hollow ground RWL-34 and went off for heat treatment today. I am a believer :)

DAMN!!!!!!!!!! Those are natsycoolmean! I can't really say for shure which one I like better. If I had a choice it would be the right one. I think. Maybe. Errr... well.... maybe the left? Yeah the left one! Oh forget about it they are both BADASS man! Nice, verry nice Ferret. I know what ya mean I found hollow grinding ALOT easier to do than Flat. Maybe we stumbled onto some deep rooted secret of the knife maker. The big names really don't think that hollow grinding is better than flat grinding just easier!
:D :D :D :D
Nice nice nice looking blade bro!

Hey Robert, I'll let you into MY little secret...I started with 2 blanks of the right hand knife from my last bar of RWL. Since I was used to aiming for a certain profile from flat grinding I ended up getting paper thin at the edge of one of the blanks. Sooo, the knife on the left is actually a SAVE i.e. a 4" bladed necker made from the remains of that first hollow grinding lesson...a win win situation :D

As I go back and look, yup, theres the resemblance in both knives. Helluva save I gotta say that! I don't think I have ever been able to save a knife from the scrap pile. :( I was also going to ask you (but forgot), how difficult it was to hollow grind up to that tiny and thin of a point on the left one!:o Guess I know now.:D
Love the design. You and I think along the same lines as far as designing goes. How do those handles feel? I allways made mine with a swell at the bottom to fill the hand. Does the grip you make feel secure with no slipage?

The handles on all me kniffs have been very comfy and secure...people are surprised because the handles often look anorexic...
How did I grind the tip? Very carefully! :) Not sure how it would have gone if it wasn't actually a save but it did make me wonder whether sometimes it might not actually be easier to grind first and profile second, if you know what I mean...
BTW, when I was trying to figure a way to revive the ruined one I came up with 3 neck knife designs, a style I hadn't considered before :)
