Hollow ground re-sharpening

Ordered a new Benchmade Presidio this week and have a question about re-sharpening it, when needed.

I've got one of the Gatco 3-stone kits and have never been overly proficient in sharpening with it. Granted, I've only tried to sharpen cheap stuff.

My question is: do I need to do anything special to sharpen the hollow ground Presidio with that kit?

Will I have to re-profile the edge as part of using the Gatco?

Thanks!

Just make sure you have a firm hold on the blade, with the Gatco clamp. If your blade is a high-hollow grind (hollow extends all the way up, to the spine), you might need to place the clamp as much on the blade tang as you can, to give it some flat surface to hold on. The clamped setups will have difficulty holding on to a hollow grind by itself. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. The Gatco will put a standard V-bevel on the edge, but I'm betting the knife's already got that anyway.

You don't have to reprofile the entire edge bevel, if you don't want to. Either match the angle as close as you can, or just go a tiny bit higher in angle and apply a micro bevel. Having said that, my personal preference has always been to reprofile with the guided setups (I have Lansky, Gatco and DMT Aligner setups). I do all of my subsequent maintenance by other means, freehand. It's up to you. If you're going to use the Gatco for all maintenance of your blade, I'd just stick with micro-bevelling. Much less work that way, and it'll remove a lot less steel each time.

Thanks. I did receive the Presidio and it is very sharp. I also ordered a Sharpmaker and will try to use it to maintain edge.
