Greetings,

I have a couple of hollow handle knives, and I'd like to build a survival equipment tube to carry in the handle.

I'm looking for plastic storage tube with lid that is:
2.5" long by 0.75" diameter
2.2" long by 0.75" diameter.

I've exhausted my abilities to no avail on eBay, Amazon and Google.

Anyone have a source for these tubes?

I'd much appreciate some help.

Thank you

Z

Just make one, you can get plastic tubing and use end caps....you will have what you want!

I would avoid using a separate tube as they severely reduce internal space. I pack things together with scotch magic tape and use the tape folded over twice to make a strong tab to pull things out.

The crucial issue is diameter, as even half a mm lost in diameter is a huge deal with small spaces like this.

How about rolling your own out of a manila folder and duct tape?

Get a piece of clear plastic sheeting. Something used in like office supplies. Cut it to length, but as far as the width goes, make it over lap by a good bit. Roll it up tight in a tube shape and tape it off with some tape or use rubber bands (ranger bands?) to set it's memory. Then when you use it, it's expandable as far as what you have in it. Put a big ol fat cotton ball on either end.

And it's ULTRA lightweight. Just find a piece of plastic that looks durable. Kydex would be REAL SWEET if you could ever find any thin enough. Of course, you could make one out of Kydex no matter what the thickness? Let your creative juices flow!

Hey, when you mass produce these, don't forget me!

Brownells has a selection of plastic tubes and end caps for tool storage. Perhaps they have what you need.

I think I'm gravitating toward just using cling wrap plastic. Basically lay everything out and wrap it in cling wrap plastic.
The tubes that come in some of the knives are really functional, but so far, I don't like any of the solution I have found.

I agree, I have some tubes that came with some of my HH knives. I never use them. They severely subtract room.

I just plan my contents layout and then fill in the voids with things like firestater, etc.

You just want to be careful not to jam the handle so tight that you can't get all the items out. Using thread or tape like some have suggested can be helpful.

I came across the idea Sam had about using waxed linen to roll the items in, and use it as tinder if needed. I like that idea.
