Hollowed out BM or FSH Mag handles?

Has anybody ever hollowed out the mag handles on their FBM or FSHs for survival goodies? I would be curious as to how they did it and what screws to use to reattach the handles?

No disrespect, but why would you want to do that? A simple pouch on a sheath is a much simpler and logical solution, IMO. Removing the scales, hollowing them out and replacing the tubes with bolts is an answer to what question?

Theoretically, you could hollow out the scales with a dremel (wearing a respirator so you don't breathe the toxic dust) and reattach them with chicago bolts, but then you would need some sort of screwdriver to remove them. A screwdriver which would occupy about the same amount of space in your kit as you gained by hollowing out the scales in the first place. I bet somebody has done this already, though I've personally never seen it.

I can't say I ever though about doing such a thing. When you say storage for survival goodies, do you really mean a good stash spot..lol..

I just use my backpack for storage, and leave my Busse s specifically for chopping/cutting

Hi Moonwilson and Uncle Jarvis, I agree with you 100% that the place to carry your compass , firesteel and survival items is in the knife sheath and in your pack. A lot of my thinking about this came from my dad who flew Chinooks in Vietnam. The model 18 Randal that he always carried with him contained a small compass, a metal match, some hooks and some other small item that I can't remember. He had a full complement of survival equipment but felt it was important to have these items as backups to his regular gear. I feel the same way. What can it hurt to have some small backup items in my HOGFSH? Actually i'm sitting here looking at the mag handles and thinking I might have to order uncontured mag handles to make this work.
