Holster or carrying case for MIDLAND GMRS Radio suggestions

When my sons go out in the bush or out West hunting in remote areas I ask them to carry a GMRS radio.

Last year out in South Dakota my son lost a GMRS radio. He set it down and couldn't re-find it later (yes it was camo. He must have been too far away to hear a call signal before he noticed it missing as he tried to locate it with the call signal function too using the other radio my other son with him had).

I recently ordered another set of MIDLAND radios - GXT750VP3 26-Mile GMRS Radios - and I thought a holster or carrying case that attaches to the belt would be a good idea for them this year.

Unfortunately I cannot find any holster or carrying case made for these. I'd be happy with improvising something else.

The dimensions of the radio (including the belt clip but not including the antenna – incidentally, I would be willing to cut a hole in the top of the case to improvise a fit for the antenna) are . . . 1.8 inches thick x 2.5 inches wide x 5 inches high per radio.

The dimensions of the radio NOT including the belt clip (and again not including the antenna) are . . . 1.5 inches thick x 2.5 inches wide x 5 inches high.

They could carry them in this case with or without the belt clip but would prefer to leave the belt clip on so as not to lose it, therefore the preferred dimensions of the case would be 1.8 x 2.5 x 5 inches.

Case suggestions and where I can obtain them would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your input and suggestions.

There are a ton of different sized camera cases around. I'm sure you could easily modify (if necessary) one of them. And they're not expensive.

Hi,
I have had a lot of success with the gear from Cactus Climbing here in NZ. They make radio harnesses and (what I believe will be more useful for you) radio belt holsters that are "universal" fitting. We use their harnesses for holding radios (from PRS - our equivalent of your UHF CB radio service - to more industrial sized handhelds).

They are a small and very friendly company, which i have no ties with other than as a very satisfied customer for a number of years.

Even if you don't want to buy from NZ, or pay as much as they charge, you will hopefully get an idea of the sort of stuff that is available.

regards
Sean

I just use a molle 30 rd mag pouch and it fits perfect for me. The antenna stick out of the top and you still hear it if you leave it on when needed. You still have some room for other thing if you want.

I found black cordura-type cases with belt loops that fit my Midland 650s perfectly in WalMart's camera section. They were maybe $2 each.

This is made to fit the Motorolas, but it may work for your Midlands. Avery Radio Cover

I like the look of those chest holsters. Cabelas used to carry one but I can't find it on their site right now.

I prefer to use a headset and leave the radio in its case.

If by looking for a case you are just trying to prevent loss, have you considered other alternatives? What about a lanyard? With a lanyard, the radio can be attached to a pack, belt, or blet loop, and ban still be easily removed if needed. I have a Garmin GPSmap 60CXs. I don't 100% trust the belt clip on the unit, so I loop the lanyard through something, just in case.

MOLLE pouches, as suggested, aren't a bad idea. You could place the radio in a medic pouch where it could also be retained by the elastic webbing, and you could still have room for a small psk.
