Below are pictures of the locking layer of one of my folder sheaths using Holstex in their new Carbon Fiber pattern.
Coming from the sport bike side of the motorcycle industry I am very familiar with Carbon Fiber and faux CF.
The pic's are taken in different lighting conditions to show the contrast between the two weaves light and dark just as with real CF.
Holstex has come closer to looking like the real deal than any other attempt I have come across as the pic's show, very impressive !!

Pretty cool! I have a question about the construction of your sheaths. First, I love your designs and the dual layer idea and that is where my question lies. It appears (to my eyes) that the inside layer of kydex is formed to the knife and finished. Then the outer layer is formed over that and it's purpose is to connect to the belt loop, tek-lok, etc.

Am I correct? Is this done for purely cosmetic sake or is it to allow disassembly for cleaning and also keeping the belt loop/tek-lok connections from scratching the knife?

Thanks much guys.
GrizzleyBear:
The base layer is the sheath itself, the second layer serves two purposes, the first is to lock the knife into the sheath (Level II retention)as both layers are necessary for the lock to work, the second purpose is durability/stability/rigidity, overall it makes the sheath more durable, lastly if it is going to be there use it to enhance the esthetics.
The hardware holds everything together.

It is an integral lock of my design to lock the knife within the sheath, it allows the knife to be carried with absolute piece of mind, including inverted, with a quick push of the index finger on the tab during the draw stroke the knife is ready to deploy.

Is the carbon fiber pattern printed on the outside or does that go all the way through to the other side?

I don't think it goes all the way through but it is the same print on front and back.
