What do ya'all think about this?
The WASP, a weapon that injects a ball of compressed gas into its victim that then expands to the size of a basketball, instantly freezing and exploding their internal organs.

Here's a link to the article and video...http://gizmodo.com/5027010/wasp-knife-will-freeze-and-blow-up-your-organs

Who actually manufactured this knife and what is their targeted market/victim?:grumpy:

Ok... I just found their website...http://www.waspknife.com/

yikes!

i would be more scared if it wasnt for the fact that a knife in my gut isn't the best news to begin with.

Junk. The CO2 would vent back out the wound around the knife in anythig that didn't have a hard shell like a watermelon. And as for freezing, it mightcool the tissue immediately around the wound cavity. But water has a very high specific heat, meaning that it takes a lot of energy to make it change temperature. Your organs are mostly water. Boyle's Law can't be repealed. You can't get that much freezing power out of a CO2 cartridge.

Might be useful as a shark defense knife...Poke - Pssst - ZIP! ...he rises to the surface. ??
But I think I'd want it on the end of a 5-6 ft pole... :)

It looks like a tool Bear Grylis would use.

"In the wild your mental attitude is paramount, so having a fruit smoothie anywhere, anytime, is vital. Note how I take out my WASP... stab it into this watermelon" *ssssttt!!* "Stir, and I have the smoothie that my travels require. Oh crap, here comes a bear."

flashlife had it right. The same idea is used on a type of shark hunting spear. Instead of a blade, it uses a hollow spike cut like a hypodermic needle to deliver the gas, and a much larger CO2 charge.

It would seem effective for its intended use - bringing down large predators or disabling them underwater. Assuming said predator is right on top of you, of course.

It's not an idea new to divers. Compressed gas weapons have been around for a while, but usually use a long needle tip allowing far greater distance between you and, say, that bull shark that wants to play tag.

I have to wonder if this thing isn't being marketed for other uses, though. Here's something from overseas: "What an utterly awful way to die. Britain’s Metropolitan Police are fearing the use of the Wasp Knife. The dangerous knife instantly freezes the internal organs of stabbed victims by injecting a ball of compressed gas into their body... This knife will almost certainly kill and the Met must have intelligence that they are in circulation. I think it is only a matter of time before one of these is used because the internet makes it much easier to find and buy weapons like this."

I think it's only a matter of time before most any object gets used as a weapon.

In Fl, we used Bangsticks.

12 Ga for sharks.

.38/.357 for Gators.

Much cheaper, and MUCH more effective!

Please no! Too much hoo-ha flying about regarding this "knife" right now. Useless. If you need self defense use a gun. The knife world doesn't need any more weapons flak.:barf::jerkit::barf:
