Holy Crap, Where Do I Start? New Guy Intro

Hey all,

New guy from the San Francisco bay area in California.

Not really a knowledgeable knife guy. I own some. I use some. That's about the extent of my knife stuff. I'm looking to learn a little more.

I've been reading Marcus Wynne books, so I've been getting interested in knives. EDC a Spyderco p'kal and a Camillus boy scout knife that I got in the mid 90's.

I guess that's about it. Looking forward to hanging around and learning.

Well, I don't have much to offer you, but I appreciate the post because I'm in the same boat. I would love some suggestions on where to get started. I lean more towards the tactical style folders. Although I have an appreciation for the simple and very well made. I want to learn more about why one would choose a type of metal over another and a type of handle material over another. I've searched the forum, but I have not found any good threads that address these questions at beginner levels yet.
I do appreciate the camaraderie of the members of the site and I have learned a lot already. I would just love to see a section like "Knife Collecting 101."

Welcome ... and feel free to use the search function with your specific interests in order to narrow down your area of interest. All the info is here. Just needs seeking!

Welcome ! Try search feature on your specific interest ... collection ( in my limited learning) of knives is more specific to type of knife. Under forum categories, try the area of your interest. A little time investment here is gold to anyone who loves the edge.
 
This is the ultimate virtual place to learn, in my humble opinion.

If you're as lucky as I was you'll even get to meet some makers and collectors who turn out to be local and in that arena you'll learn more than anywhere else. Prepare for fast and furious obsession based purchasing!
 
Start on youtube as well as the forums. Watch all sorts of guys to you get a broad perpective. Apostle p is a good guy to watch youll learn a lot
