I know this isn't a normal W&S post..... but this is my favorite sub forum for info an "gab". I purchased some "King Brand" Japanese wet stones and am more than pleased with the result.

I took out my old Hickory skinner from the kitchen block and touched it up with the 6000 ( I bought a 250, 1000, 6000 and flattening stone). Holy crap!!! I was pretty sure I had it down as far as putting an edge on my blades, until I bought my first wet stone. I didn't even use my leather strop and I could do surgery with it after the 6000 was done.

They are not piratical to carry on the trail, but thought I would ask. Any of you use, or carry wet stones on the trail. I so... how?

If you have not used wet stones..... save up and buy some. They are worth the money IMHO!

I have a 250 and 1000 grit set of Japanese waterstones and absolutely love them! I bought them on recommendation for sharpening chisels and plane blades, but now use them for all of my knives as well, from kitchen to edc. I opted for a strop instead of the 6000, but someday...

I keep mine in a tupperware container of water and use the lid for a wet-proof surface while sharpening. This tupperware goes in the truck for the camping/hunting trips, but I probably wouldn't try to bring one on a pack trip. Too fragile/heavy.

What do you use to spread water on the stones while using them? I used a old baby bottle to which my Wife remarked "NICE???".
