I was on their web site and couldn't believe my eyes! Some real nice eye candy there, including the Howard Viele WASP ($115), Ryan Model 7 ($60) and the Tighe Tac ($65). Has anyone handled any of these yet? Any word on their quality? How about the steel used - Aus 118 for the WASP and Aus 6m for the Model 7 and the Tighe Tac? And how about the price - you can get three production custom collaborations for $240! I'd love to hear some feedback on these knives. How close are they to the actual custom versions? How do they compare to the Microtech LCC in terms of quality compared to the actual custom version?

Thanks,

Art

At a knife shop a while back I got to play with the WASP and I was very impressed. I had originally thought it looked good in the pictures, but then I thought about the price, and the slot it would fill in my collection, and decided that it was a knife that I didn't need. Then I got one in my hand. It's as smooth as any knife I've held, well, it was almost as smooth as the Elishewitz custom they had, but it was real close. It felt very good in the hand. The odd clip and thumb stud placement that had partially turned me off in the pictures turned out to fit the knife very well and didn't pose any problems at all. I think anyone who gets one of these will be very happy with it. I would have bought it right there, but it was 3 days before Xmas and I had $.06 left to spend, and they couldn't come down that far. Very impressive knife.

Mike Payne is well known in the "under"-world for having "connections" in "acquiring" and "dealing" various hard-to-get "goods." Check out these two first impression style reviews by TRAV for more information:

What happened to their high-end ACUTO steel? I thought the Wasp was supposed to be made of ACUTO.

Their steel facts sheet no longer lists ATS-34, and ACUTO. CRKT does still use at least ATS-34 don't they?

The new models are very cool, the WASP, Tighe Tac & the Ryan. I brought home the Tighe Tac & Ryan from the SHOTSHOW & I love them both. The Tighe Tac was probbly on of my favorites(for the money) The WASP is REALLY nice and is probably one of CRKT's nicest collaborations and razor sharp also.

LOL......"under-world"....I like that....

Actually, I don't think ACUTO was really high-end; I believe Sergiusz Mitin did some cutting tests with it, and it came out poorly compared to ATS-34, and whatever AUS-X steel he compared it to. So maybe consumer feedback has indicated a preference for non-proprietary steels of this nature.

I handled the WASP at a local shop the other day, and I have to agree with posts from others, a very nice knife. It is much nicer than I thought it would be, based on the pictures I had seen. Fit and finish seemed much better than some other CRKT knives I've handled. Only thing I didn't like about it was the large radius your thumb has to travel to open the blade, I think the thumbstud could have been placed better. Otherwise, it is a beautiful folder.

I just got the WASP, it is well built, look good, but too small, hope the larger fits my hand better. The wife just got a new knife, my WASP.

i'm very interested in the Ryan and the Polkowski/Kasper Companion. they look awesome. and 2 sheaths w/the fixed blade! that rox...can't wait...
