Have I been lying to myself all this time? I mean, how could have I denied it for so long?

I've been accumulating knives, a good fair amount no doubt, for almost 4 years, and I haven't done this since I was a teenager.

I had a great talk with SpecialK today, who made me realize that collecting knives is a serious business, but I also caught myself saying I couldn't ever really see myself as being a Collector, because I don't generally collect things. But I do believe in practical redundancy. I believe in economy; I can't afford to own things that I will not use.

At any rate, I came home from work, and just went around and retrieved all the handmade, (not ethnic such as khukuri) knives I have stashed in various backpacks or whatever and in *the box.

Man, there are over 15 there, by 10 different makers!:barf:

How the hell did that happen?!

:thumbup:Thanks man! Just like that, there they were...

I snuck them in there when you were at work. Hope you enjoy!

Hello Jonathan,

I did not realize that the young guy I met at the Blade Show was
the "knife fairy".... Now that I think about it, were those beautiful knives
you showed me surprises to be found one day by new collectors in one
of their closets at home?

Lorien and all those who do not (yet) recognize the knife collector bug
lurking inside them - beware, it IS THERE, just warming up....

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

it really hit home when I realized I have knives that I will likely never use, but that I don't want to part with. And it's not like there are sentimental reasons either.

Ya gotta watch that Jon character... he's a sneaky one.

I've been known to pull a few tricks.

Only if they behave.

you've got yourself a sweet collection there Jon:thumbup:
I especially love those Kaspers. That's one of my favorite folding knife designs ever, although I can still not bring myself to purchase the CRicKeT version;)

Anyone else out there care to sare photos of their collection?

Thanks!! I appreciate the compliment. I wasn't gonna say anything but I am working on a website which a close friend is building for me. It will replace my fototime site soon and I would love to share it here.

The Kaspers are cool. Both of them rotate in and out of my pocket along with the JWS folder. All are good carry knives.

will there be a Kasper or two waiting for me when I get home from work?
:D

After having a good perusal of Dr. Darom's book, I have now realized that I am not a Collector. I think that Collector of Knives is almost like a PHD, or MS, or other recognized degree. For a collector to earn the title of Collector, I believe that a fair amount of time must be spent developing various skills and talents, not to mention contacts.

At best, I'm a lower-case c collector, but probably more accurately, a custom/handmade knife acquirer. Is there any room for the lowly acquirer in this forum?:o Any other wannabe Collectors out there?

I think you are mistaken, Lorien... I myself began by collecting Spydercos,
which by the way I still do, acquiring from time to time new models
that appeal to my taste - and in many cases become my everyday pocket
carry knives.

You ARE a collector at heart, and are collecting knives you can afford today!
Just wait for "tomorrow" and see what happens....

I began with Spyderco and look where I am now with one great collection of
about 2,000+ high end modern custom knives --- all housed and kept safe
in 5 books --- and my collection is growing each year with every new
book that I publish....
:) :)

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Lorien, I often think about that myself. I'm no where near the big leagues of collecting. I do my own thing at my own pace, and I'm enjoying it immensely. On a side note, I think its important for us to share knives on the web and expose them to the world.
