Wow!

Just purchased my first Spyderco (Delica 4 in blue with VG10).

Whoever worked on her at the factory that day spent a little "extra" time on the sharpening or something. WOW this thing is vicious!

I'm kinda OCD about sharpening my knives so I know sharp but this one is a freaking light saber.

Well done Spyderco!

most of my spyderco's are FFG. and they seem to be a little sharper then most other blade's coming out of the factory!i think it has to do with the steel they use,the CPM S30V and S35VN are killer sharp on my knifes.

Sharpest knife i ever got was the manix LW in BD1. I usually put my own edge on my spydercos as soon as I get them but that particular knife was amazingly sharp. I think your'e right. Every now and then one of the sharpening guys reaches a level of perfect zen focus and makes an atom splitter. :)

My Caly3 came from the factory that way. It would cut some very soft and delicate paper pretty well. This was the sharpest Spyderco I have ever bought.

My Double Bevel is so sharp, it cut me before I took it out of the box. ;)

Actually, I've got a 8CR13Mov blade, a Taichung S30V blade, a Golden S30V blade and a VG10 blade. The VG10 was the sharpest one out of all of them.

My CruWear Millie was my sharpest out of the box, and I've been able to get it sharper than all of my other Spydercos, though I am talking about a slightly coarser edge (Medium rods with only a few very light passes on the fine). I feel the need to do some more exploring with SuperBlue and use the fine rods for longer.

Recently bought several new spydercos and the delica 4 was definitely the sharpest of the bunch.

Funny you should mention the blue Delica 4. Mine was also VERY sharp out the box though the action was stiff. I lubed it a bit and was working the blade to loosen. Not paying attention, and ended up in the ER with five stitches to my thumb. First, and hopefully last time to be bitten by a Spydie. My wallet continues to take the bite. ;)

I've never had any knife from Spyderco arrive less than razor sharp. They all seem to have that nice toothy edge that cuts like a demon. Anyone know what grit belts they finish on?

Same here. The ones I feel come the sharpest from the factory are the ZDP models I have. Nothing scientific or anything, just the feel of the edge. As a matter of fact, the edge on those blades inspired me to improve my sharpening and maintenance routine on my knives.

I feel I can finally get an edge as sharp or arguably sharper as those on my own with my consistent angle sharpener. Once i have the bevels set with it, I touch them up on the sharpmaker ( micro bevel) from time to time, and that seems to be my sweet spot in keeping the edge where I want it. Watched ApostleP on YouTube for that idea, and so far I really like the results. I'm about to work a strop into the maintenance routine as well.

As someone who is waiting for my first Spyderco (a Cat) to come in the mail, I look at this topic and can only say . . . WOO-HOO!! :D:thumbup:

O man! You are going to love that Cat if it is as nice as mine. Great choice.

yes, that's how my grey ffg vg-10 delica came. i got it from a shop (expensive) but the seller swore the box has never been opened except for visual inspection. it was the only production knife whose edge felt sticky, unlike others that simply feel "bitey." it could split hair in either direction.
