A few of you took pity on me and my lamentable "state of employment in-betweenedness" and sent me your beloved khukuris to wreak my havoc on for a tiny fee...:D

Well, one of those kind persons was donutsrule who sent me his Dad's 20" Ang Khola Villager, which, admittedly, was in decent condition in the first place.

This one got sanded/polished/finished handles and a new convex edge for both the khukuri and the karda. Overall, it has turned out pretty nice, but the special part is the edge on the khukuri. A combination of good grinding by the village kami, and a new convex edge produced this:

Cutting test #1 - 10 sheets (232 Kb)

I knew immediately that 10 pages would not be enough of a test, so I grabbed 40 and gave it a shot...

Cutting test #2 - 40 sheets(327 Kb)

yikes!

Ya gotta love those villagers...

Now, donutsrule's Dad is going to have a heckuva chopper that'll shave the hair off a flea's butt and still cut saplings in one hit!

Hope you don't mind me making this public, DR.

Thanks.

Dan

I'll box it up and drop it in the mail tomorrow.

Enjoy!

40 sheets :D

And when you slice a phonebook like that
we'll be calling the G.Book of W.Records.

All it produced on my computer was a bunch of computer generated nonsense:) What did the khuk really do? Oh yeah, I was meaning to talk to you about your sharpening CD, are you still burning them? As far as the other stuff goes, keep the faith. I've had some rotten times myself, through the years. Suddenly, things are slowly getting brighter ;)

Some folks seem to have trouble seeing the lil' videos, which are in .wmv format. You need to play it on the latest Windows Media Player.

You'll have to download it and watch it to see what happens...:D :p

Seriously, though, send $5 and your address, and I'll drop a Convex Sharpening CD in the mail. (The files on the CD are in .avi format which is playable in just about any media player).

Just FYI: I hand-sanded this blade (just for kicks) just like I show on the CD - gotta make sure I can still put my money where my mouth is.

I LOVE the little videos. I can only look at them at work cause my home computer is too slow. The line out the hollow isn't very good thanks to my former evil neighbors shooting shotguns in the air.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to do them.

WHat do you charge for your sanded/polishing/finished treatment? That's a heckuva cut!

The Khukuri in question arrived yesterday, and I got it to my dad. He's VERY happy with the transformation, and I'll put up a field report on it as soon as I get one from him.

 Wooooooo

That's the sharpest I've seen anything that can be held in a hand. Thanks for the videos! Using 600 grit sandpaper on a wood backed, leather strop, I still can't get an edge up to arm hair shaving sharpness.

As the mystics say: "You have the gift" :D
