Browsing the for sale forum I found this image of a Walter Brendt knife

Brendt02.jpg

which shows a striking resemblance to this one

Strider_full01.jpg

Is the Strider still an independent design or would you call it a copy?

Yeah I think they both are made of some kind of metal and they both have a sharpened edge.

The blade geometry is different. And the M Strider custom is a much better knife, in my opinion. The Brendt knife looks like a good knife, but I will always go with a Strider.

There are so many finite possibilities that one can come up with on a knife. The knives do look similar, but to say that it is a copy would not do either maker justice. The geometry is indeed different, and to say otherwise would show a lack of understanding when it comes to knife design. Both look nice and are surely first class knives. Would you do to a Brend what you would do to a M. Strider, though? AND, Strider is most assuredly vehemently opposed to copiers of design. I've seen in person their reaction to someone that was knocking of a CRK Sebenza at the Blade Show. It is not something they took lightly. I assure you it is coincidence that they even remotely resemble each other.

Give me a break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!}
I can put up pictures of about 2 dozen fighters that all look the same, and where did the idea come from.......?????????
Why...could it be Bo Randall???????? duh!!!!!!! :(
As Kit Carson once told me: You can only do so many things with a handle and a piece of steel!!! :):):)

I like em both, However if I wanted a knife to put under a glass case I would pick the Brend. If I wanted to chase some unauthorized visitor in my house I pick the Strider. :D

You better hope that your'e not in a murder suspect line-up if Ralph is the witness!

this is the same guy who made such a big deal about the MICK STRIDER customs when we had a few and he could not understand the cost. this is a perfect example of someone trying to stir up S**T! just let it go man. try collecting Frost Cutlery.

Thats a strong word to use when the two knives are obviously very different. The only similarity that I can see between the knives is the choil area but so what? Many makers make Loveless style knives like Edmund Davidson. I see nothing wrong with that. I really don't see how M. Strider's knife could even be called Brend style. To me it is a unique piece.

Hey dummy, that general edge geometry can be seen in assloads of fighters and bowies. Pretty ballsy and ignorant to come over here and charge one of the most original blade designers in the field with plagiarism. Striders are THE most original looking blades on the market. Very uncool.

Besides, they have just as many dis-similarities as similarities. Look at the belly on the Brendt. Here's a picture of my MMHW IGF- looks about as similar as the Brendt/MS:

(even my girlfriend says you're crazy)

Ralf, you only have to change 25% of a design to be different according to the patent office. Those two knives are way different, the Strider custom has a curved centerline while the Brend is straight. If you push further, I can come up with at least 25 more differences. Yeah the are full guard fighters and look similar, but I agree with Mayo's quote.

Kumdo, sweet knife. It is awesome. Is that their fighting bowie?

all in good jest and no sexism involved (damn I hate being PC on public forums :p that quote is saying a lot. :D

At first glance, I had to agree there was a similarity. Then looking again, other than the choil, the similarity disappears.

Although, I have to admit, a Brend/Strider collaboration would be cool.

Mr. Ralf,
This is an open forum and we encourage questions, but keep in mind all anyone really wants in a coversation is respect, intelligence and professionalism. Speak to your friends however you wish but be cautious of your choice of words with people you do not know. Since this piece is Mick's design ,I'm sure he will let you know the exact answer to your question even though many have already posted the reality of this matter.
Sincerely,
Duane Dwyer

Jeeze Ralf,
Did I kick your ass in the third grade or something?
I guess if I had to choose I would certainly choose homage.
Had you worded your post a little differently I may have taken it as a complement. Mr. Walter Brend is a remarkable knife maker.
I'm sorry that you feel my designs are not worth the money. Though I'm unsure as to why this has prompted your attacks upon my moral character.
Take another look at the knives and re-evaluate the similarities. If you like, post a list.
Ill start.
1. Their both very pointy.
2. They both have those thingers that hold on the handle. I really love those...
3. Josh is right, their both definitely made of some kind of metal.

Pull it together brother, your acting like a stalker.

Thanks for the back up you guys

Mick

SniperBoy: Sorry about the sexist remark. Funny thing is that I didn't even try to be an a$$hole. And my girlfriend read the post and didn't even realise it was sexist. She rocks.

Reed: That's the Integral Guard Fighter. And since this is a Strider forum, I'll just shut up and mention that Striders are MUCH cooler! ;)

Mick: Nice form there. I probably would have been a lot more pissed off/defensive. (See? - he's a nice guy to boot!)

I don't think Mr. Mick or Mr. Duane need to get pissed when they have a bunch of good friends to back them up.. and Mr. Kumdo.. I was actually referring to ME as being sexist.. hell I've been accused of being otherh thigns on other forums.. yes your GF rocks. :)

hey john....just exactly what is that picture of under your name??
Looks like pigs flying to me!!!!!!?????????
