There were several posts about this a while back. I was just curious to see if anyone tried it. If it worked out well, I was thinking of trying mine and also the liners of a Kershaw RT.

I've tried it, using Coke. Would definately need a better electrolyte, I think, since all I managed to get, after letting it sit for about 3 days hooked up to 4 9-volts (and going through 3 sets of them), was a very faint grey-gold color, which I eventually just sanded off.

I'm told that one of the best electrolytes to use is any cleaner that contains trisodiumphosphate, TSP. Spic And Span is one example. One article I've read highly recommends Spic and Span. Cleaners advertised as "soap scum removers" also seem to work well.

The big problem is that absolutely no steel must be in the electrolyte as it interfers with reaction. This means that you must remove the latch since, while the latch itself is Ti, the hardware that secures it isn't. You also have to remove the blade if you want to anodize the entire handle.

Surface preparation is very important. The handles must be perfectly clean before you begin.

And 21 volts, three 9-volters, is barely enough to bring out colors in Ti. According to the article I've got, you're gonna want more like 40V to really get some interesting colors out of Ti.

this forum gets more interesting each day. :)
all the knowledge some people here are carrying... and it's leeking out. one day at the time. ;)

Although I haven't tried it personally, the results is pretty consistent for the person that wrote the article.

Colours:

1 Battery (9v): Grey
2 Batteries (18v): Dark Purple
3 Batteries (27v): Blue
4 Batteries (36v): Light Blue
>4 Batteries (36v+) Anything above 36v will give a light blue to gold colour.
NB. Anything above 36v doesn't look very good.

I was just wondering if you apply vaseline or some oil in patterns on the handle and than anodyze it will you end up with a cool pattern burnt onto the handles or will it just interfere with the anodyzing process?
