Hey guys and gals... I thought it would be nice for use to post pics of our "go to" blades for home defense. I want to stick with non kukri or KLO's in this thread. I am sure we can all flood this thread with cool khuk pics but I want to see what other types of blades you have. JW shared a nice wakizashi and ko katana which gave me the idea. So go home tonight and take some pics!

Here is my "go to" short sword. Its perfect for inside small rooms or even hallways. I attempted to try certain techniques with my Bujinkan katana but found the 14 in handle to long. The 23in blade wasn't to bad but I felt I needed a faster "hallway" or front door fighter and this fit the bill. Its 1095 carbon steel through hardened, it has a 15 inch blade and 5 inch handle with a full tang blade.

Full tang with hard rubber grip, the rubber is a bit stinky even after a wash so I am going to either make wooden scales or wrap it in para cord. I think wood scales with checkering is the way to go.

Please share your short swords, long knives, heck it doesn't have to be a blade I guess... As long as its a CQB baddass!

Well, it may not be a cool and unique short sword, but I keep an M5A1 bayonet unsheathed on top of some books in the built-in bookcase by my bed that doubles as my nightstand. It may not have a ton of reach, but it's quickly accessible, small enough that it won't get jammed getting it out of there (I used to keep my 18" WWII there and it barely fit), and since the blade is not especially sharp if I grab the wrong part when making a grab for it I won't slice my hand open. Yet at the same time it's tip is plenty sharp for thrusting into a bad guy's windpipe or gut. It's also black so if I have to use it against the thing that goes bump in the night, it's likely to go unnoticed in my hand until it's inside the bumper. Of course I recently learned the lesson that while I have better blades, if I need one in the night, that's the one to get. I heard something go bump and spent a few minutes searching for my WWII kuk when I should have just grabbed the bayonet.

I've considered using my V-42 reproduction for the same purpose, but the M5A1 is a lot more robust and the thicker rubber handle gives me better grip. I've also considered my Suga, but I like the simplicity of the M5A1 when I may not be at my best.

I also have a short cheap skeletonized tanto hanging from my bedroom's doorknob. The advantage there is that no one ever sees it because whenever the door is open the knob is against the wall. So it may not be a nice knife, but it can appear out of no where if someone tries to get into my room. For the record I'm a college student so I don't live in a place of my own, hence the weapon concealed from view and the people who I want to hide it from. Of course my roommate knows I own some stuff, just not the full extent.

Not considered a sword, but I have a 15" sirupati kukri. Short enough for hallways and heavy enough to separate meat.

Here's a couple three: yan mao dao, 25" blade and 2-3/4lbs, langseax, and a test wakizashi my youngest daughter affectionately named The Deathstick, since it won't die and it kills everything we've hit with it:aluminum lawnchairs, copper pipe, cutting a deer carcass in half at a 45 degree angle-all are 5160 and span about 10 years of swordmakin on my part.
The dao is the one I train with every night-that or my 29oz gelbu (if the dogs are still awake-shorter blade safer for terriers lol

I don't have a short sword, I just keep my Cold Steel SRK in Carbon V, HI 18" Bashpati, 6 D cell Maglite, and my Sig 226 w/15 round clip + spare (loaded w/hollowpoints), nearby for "bump in the night" duty.

"Death stick" I friggin love kids. It amazing how they can put things into simple words that express tons of meaning. 5160 steel is truly amazing stuff. Have you ever worked with 9260 steel?

I guess its just as tough if not tougher due to its silicon content.

I have a tinker pierce great sword of war in 5160 steel and its a power house. It can take anything I dish out. Ive slice wooden picnic tables in half with it among other things. Steel garbage cans don't like it either, I can hit a rolled edge of metal and the edge wont roll, crumple or distort. The Langseax is also really cool, it has that Norseman Viking look and feel to it that just screams berserka!

I also like the dao handle's curve. Its a nice design feature that lends itself to good thrusting blows. All in all a very nice collection, oh that jack Russell must drive you nuts some times. thank god he has some dogo in him. My mother had a pure breed Jack Russell and the thing barked at every noise he didn't recognize. He also went after dogs three or four times his size and made them back down more times than not. Those dogs think they are 100lbs war dogs.

Thanks for the addition

Those are all friggin soooo cool. I am in love with the Chitlangi Tanto, I had no idea how cool something like that could look. Uddha by Bura is also super sweet

ah, an AC Lakonia ... brings you "one step closer to the enemy," according to the Greeks.

Want one of those myself!

Being lazy- and direct- I just rely on a shotgun ...

I keep a neem handled Uddha by the bed. Light, fast, good slasher, and makes for a good fixed bayonet charge down the hall;)

Simple design but totally effective.

The thumper is upstairs for the gf; MBB M18 (17 inch blade). The kali sticks are actually a little long for a tight hallway; but there are still techniques that are effective in close quarters. Obviously, I've got all manner of knives in various locations....and I wouldn't be surprised if there were some firearms around here, as well ;)
