I have a 50 dollar gift certificate for Home Depot. What do you folks think about the Estwing axe? The small one. I need an axe for weekend camping.

Lots of folks will probally say that the handles are metal and rubber.......

But I have lots around 6 Estwing tools, 2 claw hammers, a rock pick, a brick hammer, a sheetrock axe, and a shingle knife. Estwing makes good tools although alot of folk that go for traditional looks may not like the looks, they work, this reminds me I need to get an Estwing hatchet sometime. Pat

Estwing makes excellent tools. My one & only problem with them is the all steel construction doesn't absorb much of the impact.I used an estwing hammer for years in construction & after about 5yrs I started to get really serious pains in my wrist & elbow.Eventually I got a graphite handled hammer & the pain stopped.I you're getting an axe & you're not going to be using it continuously everyday(like me with the hammer),you should be alright.

I have owned their short handled ax for Decades and it never let me down.

I just bought their Long Handle model last year.

I've had a Estwing Camp Axe for over 10 years, its a good axe!
I'm going to buy one of their leather handled hatchets some day.
They just look right.
Their hammers are good too, i have the one with the blue nylon grip.

I have the 3/4 ax and the leather handled hatchet.
Great for the money.

The 3/4 all steel ax is really amazing if you ask me.
I used one through about 5 hurricanes.
So many in South Florida you lose count.
Thin edge really cuts well, dosen't chip or bend and is lighter than full sized ax so you can do more work before you wear out.

I bought the hatchet. Had money left over, so picked up a pair of needlenose visegrips and a mini maglight. Thanks everyone , for the input.

i love estwing! thier camp axe is awesome, ive had one for many years.the only flaw is the leather handle. the finish cracks and chips off, i wrapped it with a thin piece of t-shirt then electrical tape to keep from ruining it. i do plan to re-do the finish. however i still think its the best camp axe ive used.
