i just started buying parts and materials for the belt sander i'm gonna make. i'm a little worried though. how do i line up the shafts and bearings so that i know they are running true? i heard that if they're not lined up right they will make alot of vibration. should i use a square to make sure that the shafts and square with the frame? i want everyhing to be lined up perfectly, becuase i know this is a good design, and i'm spending alot of money on it, so i want it to end up perfect. thanks in advance.

Magnum, just be sure to leave yourself some room for tweekin the thing. I'm sure you'll make one fine grinder! If I can help you with making anything, say on my lathe or mill, gimme a hollar. Take care! Michael

Hello,

Not to knock your wanting to build a grinder,,,but i tried that once also ,,,,and found that just the Price of a Good Aftermarket Main Contact wheel and Idler wheel cost more than the GRIZZLY grinder i bought . And its a complete set up grinder in the box for 295.00.

Anyway good luck to you and your building
project.

thanks george, that's a good idea.
thanks for the offer l6, if i need your help i'll send you an e-mail.
allen, this is going to be built a lot heavier than a grizzy. 3"x 132" belt. 3hp. the frame it's self is gonna be 1/2" x 3" steel. burr king tensioner/ tracking unit.
i'm making it so that i can put a 6"-12" contact wheel on there, for hallow grinding.
12" tall platen, with a 4" contact wheel on top. i'm thinking of putting a 18" or 24" platen on there, becuase this will be used for sheetmetal deburring, along with knifemaking. i'm not trying to put down the grizzy, but instead just trying to say that it's a differnt type of grinder.
