Turner just posted a new bow of his that's pretty sweet and it reminded me of one I built in January.

I don't have any good pictures right now, but there's enough to give you the idea. Some day I'll get a couple of good shots.

I made it as a gift for a friend who is fond of purple (she was holding it the other day while wearing a purple shirt and with a streak of dyed purple hair the other day and matched the bow quite nicely ;)). Made to her specs, RH, 26" draw length, 32#. I believe the bow is 70" ntn. Ipe belly with Hickory backing. Purpleheart power lam, handle section, and nock overlays. The bow has not yet had a finish applied. The purple color is natural (kind of, anyway, I used a torch to accelerate the oxidation of the handle piece a little bit).

It's a sweet shooter!

Now this is a WOOD bow. Not a bow that has wood inside of fiberglass, but actually wood. The wood bends, the wood stores the energy. Nothing against glass whatsoever. I shoot competitively with a carbon fiber and kevlar bow. I'm just amazed and proud of how natural materials can store and release so much energy so well.

Hm, I'll have to get a shot of full draw too. That last shot is one I'd taken part way through the tillering process. I got it smoothed out some by the end (and pulling a few more inches than that shot was taken at). Also, sneak preview of my wooden kayak (which will actually be a wood inside of fiberglass kayak) in the top left corner of the first shot.

Thank you, all :)

Tools:
Radial Arm Saw
Belt Sander
Rasp
Chainsaw File
Drill
Cabinet Scraper
Glass Jar

Time? A lot. I don't want to know exactly how long it takes, but I can get one done in less than a week when I don't have much other stuff to do (i.e. on "vacation").

oh that's not fair! that sneak peak is rediculous! I can't wait to see this kayak. That purpleheart wood is gorgeous.

nice looking bow. looks like she tillers out very nicely. Yes indeed lucky girl to receive a bow like that for a gift. Nice work

I bet you hate to give it up.

Not at all! The handle's a little bit small for me and the weight a little low. I shoot left handed and the girl shoots right so it wouldn't work for me anyway! (OK, I have to be honest... I shot it right handed and it felt very natural. I'm considering shooting LH competitively and learning to shoot RH instinctively). I like home-made gifts. Other people can often enjoy things I've built much more than I could myself.
