Is there a way to make your own ceramic sharpener? How about adding industrial diamond dust to it as well.

Hmmm, I'm assuming they use very high pressure to extrude the ceramic to make it so dense...reckon if you get the right grit powder you could make one by just pouring in a mold, same with the diamond dust?

I've read accounts where people use old plates and bricks as sharpeners. These would be "homemade ceramic sharpeners."

Yes, now I remember that I read a piece by David Boye that he has sharpened a knife on a coffee cup. Hmmm, I wonder if my wife will mind if I use her grandmother's china?:D

I still remember seeing my Mom and aunts using the bottom of ceramic bowls to sharpen their knives when I was a little kid. Growing up, I don't remember ever seeing a benchstone of any kind. Though I must admit, I don't think the knives we had were all that sharp.

Back in the '80's working in the oilfields we used the ceramic inserts in a "Choke". There was a regulated opening in the insert that choked the oil/gas back to usable pressure. The oil/gas usually had some abrasive sand in it and wore the opening larger. When it got too big it was replaced.

FREE ceramic sharpener.
