So after learning about Choji Oil from Old Physics, LadyThud had this idea to make our own, but to use Rose Oil instead of Clove oil, so we could have the prettiest smelling Busses out there. I'm including some pics, because we all know what good a thread without them is. My roses aren't in bloom atm, so this example is pretty torn up. For my initial experiment, I didn't bother harvesting my own Rose oil....I used some I had leftover from my perfume days.

I finally got around to whipping up a batch last night, and it turned out pretty well. Since this was my first batch, I made it small, only 15 ml.

To my 15 ml of mineral Oil, I used a platic pipette to add approx .5ml of Rose oil.

I mixed up the oils and let it sit and breathe overnight. This morning, I tried it out on one of my new SAR5s. (Thanks again Uncle J) I'd say this knife is currently the prettiest smelling Busse out there. :)

This batch ended up a little bit smellier than what I was looking for. I'm going to wait a week and see how much the scent dies down, and then I'll try another batch. Probably 10ml of Mineral oil and .25ml of Rose oil this time.

Hehe...maybe I should start taking requests and selling this stuff...I could start a whole new fad, Knife perfumes. So you get your new Busse, mod the handle to taste, add a D-guard/lanyard to taste, refinish it, get some custom kydex or leather pants for it, and top your personalization off with a BubbaThud knife oil.

Thoughts? Questions? Comments? What should I call this stuff?

Ok,

I am missing something here.

Last time I said "Here, Smell My Knife" I prolly would have been arrested if I had not left the area of operations quickly.

I think the place to introduce such a product might well be at BladeShow or BladeShow West.

Think about trying it at a local Mall in SoCal,,,Excuse me Sir, May I spray your knife? Here Smell Mine.

Next Fancy Perfumes for Firearms.

Get rich doing that Young Man and you can then support me in the manner to which I would like to become accustomed in my old age.

Ahh a Sweet Smelling Future for me at long Last.

FP-10 and weaponshield are my two favorite lube/protectants. They both have cinnamon oil added as a scent enhancer. The weaponshield is especially lovely smelling. I've thought about getting some sceneted oils and mixing them in with some other stuff to see how well it works.

This scented stuff cracks me up :D I must admit that I like the sweet smell of tuff cloth on my guns and knives ;)

You should come up with some designer cologne and perfume lines for knives and firearms. Georgio Ar-knifey, etc.... LOL! You just never know who would be willing to pay an arm and a leg for something that ;)

Never used weaponshield but love that FP-10 stuff. I use it exclusively on all of my firearms.

I think you should take it to Rodeo Drive.

Boom!!! Instant celebrity fad!!!

Before you know it, every star's extensive team of bodyguards would have to have both their knives AND their guns perfumed with Bubba_Thud's extensive collection of "designer fragrant protective oils" (or DFPOs).

I can see it now. ;)

You guys quit sniffing your knifes and just use them!

.

well, I do love the smell of freshly cleaned firearms (Hoppes gun oil, WD-40 etc)

I would prefer something more manly than rose oil..................perhaps the tears and sorrow of puppies, kittens, or metrosexual's

now, the wife might just like the idea of a sweet smelling knife or gun for that matter. Just the other day, she was handling a knife I had heat treated earlier in the day (5160 I was sanding the scale off). She said the metal stank, and she had to go wash her hands.

I've always had a penchant for the smell of Ballistol.

The joy of a new HK was always an exciting thing in my young, formative years.

I have considered using it as a cologne but others just wouldn't understand. :D

I can see the commercial now... A woman being robbed headed to her car in an always under-lit parking lot. All of the sudden WHAM! Two gus with knives attack!

The woman, so casually, pulls her 1911 out of her purse, Rose wood grips reaking of Bubba Thuds "DFPO" (see already catching on), stopping the would be crooks dead in their tracks and asking, " WOW, is that a new designer fragrant from BTDFPO!"

In all saving the day, one fragrance at a time!

Maybe a bit too much, oh well.?:D

You guys are sniffing something, but I don't think it is rose oil. I'll stick with Tuff Cloth, Kroil or Birchwood Casey Sheath. :D

So OP is rubbing down his knives with scented oils now? Jamie, you feeling alright man? :D

I don't know fellas, a big strong man with a knife and a great scent? Seems pretty good to me... :D

This thread threatens my manhood on multiple levels.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to dab some Hoppe's #9 on each wrist and behind each ear.

You need to add an infusion of INFI dust! Uncle Jarvis can set you up!! :)

That sounds like a fun idea....don't see how it could hurt. I'm going to be looking to see if there's anything else I can add to the mix to improve the protective qualities....also, the nice Rose smell wears off the handle over the course of a couple of hours of use...seems to stick with the blade for longer though...even through chopping, it is a little freaky.

No ... no ... no ... no ... no! :o

Gave up the bodyguarding business decades ago. ;)

I was just thinking it might be a good business for BubbaThud, you know?

Whew!
