These are two pics of my AK Bowie and the frog I've made for the suede scabbard. It is the first time I try to post a picture, I hope it will work. The frog is made of cowhide, it is in one piece, with the bottom of the belt loop riveted on the back. The retainer is just a stripe of hide which runs on the front sliding under a loop and holds by friction. The frog is laced on the side.
All together is a very usable outfit, the knife stays well in place and doesn't move out of it. Still, it can be pulled out even with the retainer in position. Hope you guys like it (if the pictures can be seen)

Very nice, Fausto. I never got around to making a sheath for myself & now I don't think I will. I'll probably go for a frog with retaining strap myself.

How is does the retain strap connect to the sheath. Nice work, I will have to make one myself. My back and eyes still hurts from my last sewing adventure.

That is One Nice looking Villager you have there AND the Teak Stand is absolutely stunning!!!

I have never seen the handle butt on a khukuri quite like that before. Would you be so kind as to tell us about it and what it's made of?
Many thanks.

Thanks for your kind words.
You are right the handle is quite different. The knife is one of those half tang villagers (present of one of my Ghorka security guards), it cames with a fake butt cap (bent brass sheeting with a nail to keep it in place) which, beside hurting my hands, gave up quite quickly. I had the butt cap replaced with a piece of teak wood which is kept in place with a spine of the same wood and glued. The stand is made of teak as well. We carry some spare deck planks (50 mm x 200 mm teak)for repair purposes. Ray, the guy who made the stand, is a very good Philipino carpenter (actually is a joiner/carpet layer/cabinet maker)who works onboard. I'm very lucky cause I have three guys like him working in my department, as long as they have the tools and the materials they can do any kind of repair/work. I'm glad you like the outfit, it is always sitting on my desk when I'm onboard, I really like it because it is a present from my crew.

P.S.
For Will Kwan:
The end of retaining strap is riveted on the inside of the frog.

Ciao again
