i thought i would share this with you guys. i just finished off my home made folder display. i have seen people put knives in a glass display then into a shelf of wall. i didn't want to do that. any-ways it took me about 4-5 hours to make. it really isnt to hard, and it was exactly the look i was wanting. the magnets are hiding behind a thin piece of wood. about .5 mm thick. i did this by drilling the holes placing the magnets then glueing a piece of wood on about 7 mm thick on. i then sanded the wood down to .5 mm. all the wood is left over from some other projects i did. some of the wood is exotic. the base is made of zebreno, the neck and holder of teak, and the veneer of walnut.

Nicely done! The thin veneer over the magnets is a great idea. I hate the idea of those holders where the magnets are exposed, as I'm always worried that they would scratch any steel they come in contact with. This is something I might consider buying.

Looks great. You did a nice job.

Ever think about one that is leather-over-magnet?

thanks guys.

i have already thought of some design improvements, this is really easy to bemade. i think the leather would work well too, it would have to be paper thin leather though.

i did a bunch of testing on the magnets to see how thin i need the wood and how many magnets i needed. and the result for these 6mm magnets that was each stacked 5 times. so 6mm diameter x 1mm @ 5 pieces per hole and 2 holes to hold a knife as heavy as the sebenza. the magnets lose a lot of strength if they are not close proximity to the surface.

i suppose anything is possible if you use bigger stronger magnets. i just used what i had laying around. if i did this again. i would get bigger magnets.

Very nice! It gave me another idea to try a similar idea in a shadow box.

Hey, looking good. I make knives and have been trying to think of a cool way to display some of them in my shop, this might work out really well!

Thanks for sharing.
