Home Made Sharpener

If you've seen the Edge Pro, you realize how close of a copy this is. So it seems to be a good system. OTOH, it uses sandpaper, which you would think only works in one direction, but he clearly demonstrates it working in both directions. Very surprising.

Looks like a very good DIY tool to me.

Sandpaper can work fine in both directions, especially if firmly affixed on a hard, smooth backing, and with a guide for consistent angle also. I've played around with it on my Gatco guided system, and it works pretty darn well. Especially when used wet; it's very smooth with great tactile feedback. Problems only arise (cutting the paper) if pressure is too heavy on soft backing, or if the angle becomes just a hair too steep on edge-leading strokes, if using free-hand.

I'm viewing the vid now, haven't seen all of it yet (SLOW download on my system). But I like the concept and the simplicity of his setup. Edit: I also very much like the long hone with long guide rod; much more 'work' done in each pass.

Looks like it could do a decent or even excellent job, if the 'operator' is doing their part. ;)

Ive made something from the same material with a slideable angle adjuster, produces great results. Last pic was off this rig.

The sandpaper works both ways easily , Its a great way to reprofile, but if you want a sharp edge, you want a solid abrasive (stone, ceramic). I reprofile on mine, then microbevel :)

Personally, I like your choice of building materials

And for sure the end products are transparent and achieve great results.

Thanks for sharing.
