ok i want to make a knife at home....i have files a saw a drill and a fire pit i would like to use Ats34 440c and 01 any sujestions if i can useing coals heat treat them.....any sujestions at all.....i have read the cheapist way to make a knife but dont like the steel...sorry but i like it my way......

You can't heat treat ATS34 with a forge. 440C can be done, although I'm sure someone is going to be right on my heels here telling me I'm wrong. I don't recommend trying it until you've got carbon steels figured out though, its pretty difficult. You might not even be able to get it hot enough with just a fire pit.
O1 is pretty easy to heat treat. You should start with it. There are lots of threads on heat treating it if you do a search.

Matt,

It can be done but as you said the temps have to be correct. It is a very bad idea until the person has enough experience to know how to do it.

you wish..now that she has the great prison body u want her bad....ok thanks for the info i think im set...

Exactly :)
You have to be comfortable enough heat treating carbon steel to understand the changes in the process and why you make them.

I really think O1 is about the best steel you can find for folks just starting out. Heat treating it is simple and straight forward. You don't have to deal with the violent quench you would with water/brine quenches on other steels. Tempering is simple, and performance is very good aside from rusting easily. Its an easy steel to start with and results are good enough you can stick with it forever if you want  Its also relatively cheap

Matt,
O1 is very forgiving as long as it is not overheated.
It makes a fine blade with good edge holding.
I like the A BS master at the end of your post  .
