Home Spa treatmen routines?

Anyone have their own routine for cleaning up dirty abused old Bucks? Good cleaner suggestions etc.
I have a couple of gritty looking old Bucklites on the way that I picked up off the net. If they were something other than a Bucklite and had wood and brass, I'd send them into Buck. Just figure they'll need a good home cleaning.

I have never home spa treated a bucklite, but......

I would use oil and q-tips to clean it up as much as possible in the handle.
If needed use various grits of sandpaper to smooth the handle if it is really bad.

Steel wool to clean the blade in motions parallel to the grind marks in the blade finish.

Then if the blade needs more help, I like to put on thick leather gloves and proceed to carefully buff the blade on a cotton buffing wheel with green compound. Blade edge pointing down so it doesn't snag on the wheel and fly out of your hand!
This will lightly mirror polish the blade, but removes shallower scratches and corrosion.
As a welcomed by product, the lightly mirror polished blade will be more "slippery" when you cut things :)

Last.... Sharpen her up :)

Since the Bucklites are synthetic I'd just go with warm water dish soap with a toothbrush at first. Blow everything dry and lube the pivot. If the soap and water doesn't clean things like you want it to you could try toothpaste and a soft cloth or brush.

Badhammer, BIRCHWOOD CASEY just came out with a brand new GUN SCRUBBER thats [safe] for [synthetics] I love the old GUN SCRUBBER but I just bought a few cans of the [new] an it works great! and it won't harm the Second Version, Fiber Spacer, Spring in rocker design, 3 variations, Variation 1 (pre 1967)3. But also woods and finish etc.....

I don't buy cans of anything usually to costly, for blowing out knives just my old trusted CAMPBELL HAUSFELD "POWER PAL" and fill up my CAMPBELL HAUSFELD 7.5 GALLON AIR TANK FILLER UP! in the garage and bring it in the house and I'm good for a 3-4 days days! depending how many ~SILVER GOOSE~ that are in need of SPA work.......LOL

Somewhere buried in these threads from a long long time ago, is some good detail of the methods some of us use for doing our own restorations. Basically on the 110/112's.
May even been under my first name here, LFH before Pack Rat.

It's an easy process, maybe a little time consuming, but a certain satisfaction of doing it yourself.

Many of us have made them look just like they would coming back from Buck. And I do all of mine by hand, no power tools.

Maybe I will get energetic and recreate those steps someday.

Just toss the bucklites in the washing machine!...
One of my Orangeies has been run through several times when I forget to take them out of a back pocket. Blade closed of course.

If we have had a good deer hunt, I even lay a 110 open out on a top rack in the dishwasher. Been doing it for years.

For that matter, I gave Mom an AG 192 S30V 2005 in 2006 after I didn't like it for my deer doins. Is her go to kitchen knife and just no telling how many times it has been run through her dishwasher since. It shows no ill effect.

One example of a Home Spa Treatment I did a number of years ago. For what ever reason, I unscrewed the grips on this 419 and didn't like what I found on the frame or the grips.

Some 600 grit gently on the frame and grips. Then a lot of brasso rubbing on the frame and some tru oil on the grips. Didn't spend all that much time on the grips.

I liked the results.

That's what I do ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ... :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Of course DEER hunting or any Large Game including Varmit "TRUE OIL" or any other petroleum product will stink up the woods, Having no scent is crucial. Vaseline mixed with raccoon or fox urine is a pretty good lubricant, and should cover the scent of your knife/gun or tree stands where you need lubricant.

I don't take freshly applied tru-oil to the woods. Odor does take a while to dissipate. I have been using it on my gun stocks for near 50 years. Makes a beautiful hand rubbed finish.

Pack Rat I have it in my box too & use it....."Makes a beautiful hand rubbed finish" I'm sure the DEER like it too! LOL Actually it is a great product! and thats really nice knife & thanks for the share!
