Good day friends,

Happy independence day to all of us.

This is a great forum, keep it up, thank you to all the contributors.

I am in the Houston, TX area in the USA. I am looking for recommendations for a good:

1) Home use, general purpose scissors

2) Good pruning scissors

I will be grateful if you could please give me some recommendation please.

Thank you!

Henckels kitchen scissors are great for general purpose stuff, and a lot better than the cheap stainless ones you see at office supply stores. Felco shears are great for the garden. We've used both for years.

Thank you for your quick reply, I really appreciate it.

Is there any recommended vendor, either online, or in store, to buy the Henckels scissors and Felco shears?

Apologies if that is against forum rules.

Thank you

Is there any particular model you recommend? Especially for the general use scissors?

I read that there are several different categories of Henckels products

Thank you!

Most department stores carry Henkels, or knife shops. We just got the standard non-serrated kind, but there are probably several models; whatever suits your purpose. Practically any gardening centre should have a variety of shears.

I'm not sure if there is a difference between pruning "scissors" and pruning "shears" but if you're asking about pruning shears check out the Bahco brand. They get very good reviews. The big river mail order site shows several different models. You should be aware that several models come in different sizes to fit different size hands.

For garden use, I definitely suggest one of the small pointy pruners that are sold in hardware stores. I use mine all the time to trim off dead stuff from house plants, nip stuff in the garden, and clip off seed heads on things like onions or herbs.

I'd look at Fiskars scissors for indoor use. The scissors on SAKs and Leatherman multi-tools are more for infrequent use and they are small.

If you want to use SAK scissors for this, the Ranger Grip 71 Is the only way to go.

I generally have a Leatherman "Micra" in my pocket for lite trimming and some pruning chores - heavier - go with a shears - Fiskars is good - I prefer the by-pass to anvil shears but both have a place.

Lee Valley Tools has a good selection of the excellent Felco pruners and replacement parts. No affiliation other than having been a satisfied customer for at least a couple of decades, probably longer.

Cutco kitchen shears are without peer, IMHO.

They cost a hundred bucks, but they're worth every penny.

Can't help with the pruners. I've yet to find I set that I love.
