"Homegrown" Emerson Modifications

Just curious as to what Emerson owners have done in the way of modifying their knives, and any problems they encountered along the way.

Examples being....
- grinding a wave in your CQC7
- putting a spydie hole in your commander
- rehandling (stag CQC7's, etc)
- grinding waves into other brand knives (spydies, AFCK's, CRKT Urban Sharks, etc)
- canibalizing the knife (same blade, different frame, etc)
- anything else that the other 9000 or so BFC members have thought up

And while I am at it, has anyone observed interesting characteristics reminiscient of Emersons in other knives (while playing around with my CRKT Urban Shark the other day, I discovered that I could "wave" it open by catching the pocket studs on the edge of my pocket with near 100% likliehood of success)

It was hardly a modification to the knife, but I took the blueing off and polished the clip on my cn cqc7a plain edge. Used 600 grit, then 1000 and 1200, then fitz polish and the felt polishing wheel on my dremel.

that's about as much as I have done...then again, I'm new at this.
cheers,
Derek

I had my SARK turned into a pointy SARK. It
came out really nice to

- grinding a wave in your CQC7

While I've not see it done, EKI does offer waved CQC7B surrently and I'm sure someone has made one

- putting a spydie hole in your commander

I'm considering doing this to a diskless Commander (as well as a CRK&T Ryan Number Seven)

- rehandling (stag CQC7's, etc)

It's been done here before. I currently have two Commanders off to David Brunner getting Green Micarta sclase done and am thinking of having a C/P Damascus Commander done in a nice Ram's horn

- grinding waves into other brand knives (spydies, AFCK's, CRKT Urban Sharks, etc)

It's ben done. Resently I saw a AFCK pictured with a wannabe wave with a modified Spydy hole

- canibalizing the knife (same blade, different frame, etc)

Also been done. One of the Suspects has what I think he calls his "FrankenSeven"

As for the last question, yes I have seen several knives, custom and production in which the thumb studs can act as a wave, but nothing beats a Commander.

Who's gonna do your "Spyde-hole" man? Have you asked David about it? If so...how much? Thanks!!!

Ummmm, I would like to see a Commander with a Spydie hole as much as anyone, but if this is attempted AFTER the heat treat process, won't this destroy the heat treat?

I filed some reliefs into the G10 on my C7 to expose the liner serrations a bit more near the thumb ramp, and also filed serrations in the back spacer for reverse grip.

Those pointy SARK's can look pretty nice.

If Emerson would offer a waved CQC7A, then I wouldn't have to try to make one myself (gotta get a CQC7 before I can start dremeling away

though).

While I like thumbstuds or disks better on most knives, I might like a spydie hole better than a disk on the commander because that thumbstud is sooooo far out there. Really I just want to see a pic of one

FrankenSeven? Emerson blades in other frames (or longer blades in Emerson frames) sound really intriguing. The Blade/Handle ratio of many Emersons is not quite what I think it should be. (then again, they are nowhere near as "deprived" as the gunting with is puny blade in a handle almost 2x as long).

Thanks for the replies!

Jackyl, I haven't approched him about it yet as I don't have the knife yet.

Jailhack, it shouldn't. Hell, knives are surface ground (to remove scale) and sharpened after heat treating. Carefully drilling a simple hole shouldn't cause a problem.

So no one has any pictures of "FrankenSevens" and other genetic mutations of Emerson knives? I am really curious as to see intact handles with "new" blades or substantial modifications to the blade profile?

Didn't someone make a "Combat Commander" with a sharpened bowie style clip ground into the top?

And has anyone experimented with the practicality of sharpening the first .75" or so of the spine of a Commander?

Want a Commander Modification? OK, try this on for size.

The "Pirela Commander" is a reshaped Commander, made to resemble an Emerson Rhino.
