Some adzes I've made, forged & ground from spring steel (torsion bar), Oak handles & brass ferrules.
The idea of the shape was to get some extra weight, & get it forward, the picture above shows them balanced on a hatchet handle.
Where the bars enter the handles they are narrowed down considerably to make the riveted tangs, again helping to keep the weight forward.
I made them a while ago & still haven't got round to sharpening the largest one.
I've used the others a bit to try them out & so far seem up to the job.
