Homemade Adzes

Some adzes I've made, forged & ground from spring steel (torsion bar), Oak handles & brass ferrules.

The idea of the shape was to get some extra weight, & get it forward, the picture above shows them balanced on a hatchet handle.
Where the bars enter the handles they are narrowed down considerably to make the riveted tangs, again helping to keep the weight forward.

I made them a while ago & still haven't got round to sharpening the largest one. :rolleyes: I've used the others a bit to try them out & so far seem up to the job.
 
Those are fantastic!

Beautiful, clever design and functional. And I love the way you've finished them. Are those brass ferrules something you're able to buy off the shelf?

Thinking outside the box making them like that.

Perhaps they can also get 'finessed' along with a soft mallet.
