I, like many, make these and keep them with my firesteels.
It has been flooding down here in south Mississippi and when there is no dry tinder, these are gret!(Will even work wet)
So at risk of "preaching to the choir" here is how I do it.
To make I cut the "fat lighter" into a bar, drill a lanyard hole, then take some "jute" rope (hay bail rope), tie it, and dip it in melted wax.
To start fire
1.shave "fat lighter"
2. Unravel Jute
3.Strike jute with firesteel (ignites unbelievably easy)
4. Use jute to ignite Fat Lighter
5. Light wood!
After lighting Fat lighter put Jute rope and for re-use.
GOD Bless!
