Hi, im new to this section of forums, I read a bunch of the posts here, but havnt posted yet. I was just wondering what do people mean by "homemade knives" do they mean, just regular kitchen knives, or like forged, hammered, whatever. I started throwing around 3 days ago and ive only thrown two knives, and the tips bent. I dont want to spend alot on custom knives or anything, but a little help would be appreciated. Also, im going to try to throw screwdrivers, they seem like they would hold up. Thanks,
-Matt

I sometimes throw hacksaw blades, I grind it into shape, sharpen it, and they really hold up, the tip won't bend, but I've had a couple snap, but no biggie, they're 50cents each lol.

Some people may throw heat treated knife blanks, I really don't recommend throwing kitchen knives, especially cheap ones, the handles usually crack and break and you're left with a knife with half a tang.

thanks, nice advice, i might use a bone-saw or whatever and a file to make a couple, i got a link on how to do that, looks simple enough

those bayonets do look nice, how well do they keep a tip?
also, would kukri's hold up for throwing? the website you reccomended for the bayonettes has 3 kukris for 10 dollars, and i could also use them for other things

On the smaller side, I throw wood "spade" or "paddle" drill bits. I buy 7/16" or 1/2" and grind the spurs off to form a point. They are very strong.

After a few hunnert throws - no ill effects. At $3 ea, who cares if you break one once in a while. :)

about the kukri's... i have been throwing one of my HI kukris for some time and it dosnt seem to take any damage, it can be a pain to get it to stick thou.

if you are going to throw a kukri i would rekomend to throw it at somthing a bit soft :)

yeah, I thought the weight would be a little weird

Through circumstances better left untold I came into possession of 6-8 ice picks at one time. (1967-68 military school) I spent plenty of time throwing those and even though they are not the best balanced thrower once i got the hang of it I was damned deadly. Never stuck any body with one but still managed a little mischief before they got gone.
