I always wanted the sharpened spine variant of the RMD but didnt want to pay 250 dollars for one. So I made on myself :D It isnt perfect but I had fun doing it and think it looks decent enough. Took my 30 minutes on a 60 grit wheel followed by the paper wheels. I had a really hard time getting it to be even on each side and you can see in the photos where the edge begins it is off by a few millimeters.

Special note, ALWAYS be careful when using a bench grinder. Im a safety freak in every aspect of life and still managed to get hurt. I was working with the garage door open and looked away for a split second and nail my hand on the grinder. i was wearing gloves but still got a pretty decent gash. Thank God my RMD didnt fly off and stick in my neck or anything but It did catch the wheel and mess it up. Luckily it won't be expensive to replace but still ALWAYS be careful when using power tools and or sharp objects.

I would cut all my fingers off if I tried to do that

:(

I'm an expert at using a Knife--but have no patience to do what you did.

Looks GREAT to me

Sorry you got hurt

Thanks! I still have to fix the swedge so that its even on each side and I'm going to make the grind go down further on the blade. But all in all I'm pretty happy with the result for my first attempt.

I know this is probably a dumb question, but can you explain what Paper Wheels are? I hear everyone talk about them but I have no idea what they are.

Nice mod by the way. I've considered doing that to my RMD.

kalel, whenever you come up, make sure to remind me to buy some more bandaids and superglue (in case the bandaids are not enough) :p :D.

Oh... so basically they're different grit wheels on a bench grinder. Do you buy the entire wheel, or does it attach to an existing wheel. I have a bench grinder with stone wheels on it. I wonder if they come off.
