Homemade satin finish???

I missed the boat on the FBM LE's, and couldn't afford one now anyways. Who's had sucess removing the duracoat stuff and buffing out a nice finish? I was thinking of refinishing my user FBM into a nice satinish blade. I've heard of tales where the time and effort was enormous. Has anyone found a reasonably simple approach? Is this a lot to take on? It's cool dude, my dad's an electrician. He's got lots of tools. :D

look for one of gunsites threads. he's done a game warden and a hell razor. they turned out really nice.
 
Craftt has done a SWEET job on a Mud Razor. :thumbup:
He kept his to a satin finish. He has a thread on it.
I took my game warden up to a satin finish. Follow the same process but stop at like 800 grit. Just keep the sanding perpendicular to the edge. :thumbup:
 
Oh, there's actually less work for the satin than mirror. Cool.

Is there an issue with spotting and tarnishing on these duracoat-free blades? What about ones from the shop? Is there a good trick to eliminate the issue? Let me guess, a duracoat finish, right?
 
While you`ve brought up this topic . What effect do you think those chemical strippers would have on resiprene handles ?
 
The resiprene handles hold up just fine (just wipe them down if you get some stripper on them.)

As far as the satin finish on the CGFBM, you'll have those ridges to contend with... It's going to be a long process on a blade that size...

You know Hammy, that's a good point. Is there a consolodated show list? There's Blade in ATL in June(?). Indy 500 (?). When and where? Is there a Blade West also. Any others.
