Homemade Signet Ring on Manix 2 XL

The Wisemen Company doesn't make a Signet ring for the Manix yet, so I cobbled one up last weekend. Wanted to go with brass, but thought I'd experiment with aluminum first. (I messed up the fit around the scale heel on the left side.)
I reground the blade spine four years ago, installed a Silicone Nitride ball, tapered and polished the tip of the spring perch on the polymer cage, and used three lighter compression springs wound together as one, to replace the heavy stock spring.

Very nice! I bet that carries a little better with that clip point profile on it.

I know I'm a little late to the party on this one but I recently picked up the XL and it seems like no matter how much I "work" the knife it wont be smooth if I tighten the pivot the point of no blade play. Does the Silicon Nitride bearing run smoother than the steel one?

Why the ring? What is it’s purpose? Isn’t it too large to carry? Don’t get me wrong, it’s cool looking!

The ring is for a quick access and a pocket withdraw similar to a Karambit. I put a deep carry clip on to lower it inside the pocket.

I believe the Silicon Nitride ball sticks or jams inside the lock less than a steel ball. It still blocks the blade from closing and the lock has never failed.

This should have little impact on the smoothness of the pivot as you describe. It could affect it a bit as the ball rides the blade heel. Maybe different coefficients of friction? I changed my washers to phosphor bronze and adjust pivot tension while bypassing the locking mechanism. You may be deforming the stock synthetic washers with too much tension (if those are in your version of the XL).
