I have always used slingshots for fun and a bit of hunting/critter deterent. I see many folks have them in their kit but I never bothered. Well, I am reconsidering adding one to my bushbag. I have a moto I live by(mostly)... "If I can't make it, I don't take it." Slingshots are easy enough and there are a variety of styles to choose from. I like the compact Chinese/Dankung type but am lazy about making my own bands (don't ask why, they seem pretty darn simple). So I made a standard storebought-type slingshot in the Dankung size range. It accepts any "wristrocket" replacement bands sold in stores. Nothing needed outside of a propane torch, pliers, hammer and some sandpaper. Wrapping the handle can be done anyway you like... from epoxied cord(as pictured) to a tight fitting piece of garden hose. Give it a shot... a slingshot!

I love homemade gear so I would like to see any of your homemade slingshots...

I came across JWilliams' slingshot holster thread when search the forum... excellent.

No idea Brad.... Lighter than a chicken, but heavier than an egg, I suspect.

Nice job on that one. Never was very good at hitting anything with one:(
Check out the sling shot man on you tube and be prepared for total awe.

Are you going to add a wrist strap? I added one to my Dankung, I don't even have to grip the handle, I can shoot it open handed. I guess it depends on the power of the bands and one's wrist strength.

Rick- everything you touch has the "look.":thumbup:

I was assuming the frame was aluminum. Now I'm wondering if maybe it's steel. In any case, what is the diameter?

I have a wrist rocket, but I actually bought a slingshot band just a few hours ago as an impulse buy before seeing this thread. I figure I would throw it in my bag and make a sling shot when I'm out in the woods. The guy on the youtube video is amazing! I've seen that video before. He may have a website (To tired to search for it maybe someone will post it) and sells his home made slingshots. He uses wood that he finds and carves them I believe.
When I was little I had remarkable skill with really cheap toys and cheap toys only. For example, I was a dead aim with a cheap red rider lever action bb gun. It couldn't take out a humming bird. But, I could shot one. I could hit crows from far away and compensate for windage and gravity. With a pump action bb gun, I couldn't hit a soda can from twenty feet. I never understood why. Maybe because I had shot 1000's of bb's with the cheap lever action and had only borrowed a friends pump action a few times. But his aim sucked too compared to mine with the lever action. As for slingshots, I started with the cheap kind and knock over soda cans from twenty-five feet away four out of five times. With the wrist rocket, not so good. I guess you gotta find what works for you.

I hear you, Driveby.... I'm an instictive shooter(some would say lucky on the first shot, too). I snap shoot from the chest with a bow and can hit rolling oranges after a bit of warm up. Same with a slingshot... I anchor on my right side, under my pectoral and let'er rip. Slings, sticks, spears and rocks just seem to come natural for me. I couldn't hit a Honda from 20 yrds with a shotgun, though. I've never shot a handgun and it is probably better for everybody if I don't.... lol.

Thanks for the compliments guys!
