This is an old Voyager tent that was made for the Boy Scouts. I removed the floor and the screen. The framework was overkill, but I wanted to give it a try. It worked well.

This is the stove jack I installed. It is made for a 5 Man Arctic Tent.

The stove is made from an 8" piece of black stove pipe. The ends are 8" end caps. All of the rivets are steel. The door was made from a piece of left over stove pipe.

This is not the best picture, but you can see the hole in the end where the 4" stove pipe fits. You can also see the bolts that are used for the legs.

I took a hammer and flattened the top of the stove so you can cook on it.
It was able to boil water.

Rescue2 came out and gave me a hand.

He could not wait to try it out.

And then he sat on his but while I got wood.

Titus was not sure if he wanted to come in of not.

Got a little snow while checking the whole set up.

All in all it is going to be a very nice set up. I and going to spend the bulk of my winter camping in this tent this year. I will follow up with field reports in the future. Thanks for checking it out.

as always great posts brother. looks like a very nice low budget option for winter camping. I always appreciate your informative posts sir.

Looks pretty cozy inside there! I like your external frame - good thinking.

THanks for the vid/pics - well done!

very very cool!
thanks for sharing that with us.
I would like to see more of that Stove Jack as
Ive never heard of it. Maybe on one of your next trips you
can show how it assembles.
Thanks again!

very cool but you might want to weld a 6 in round of 1/4 in plate to the top for a better pot rest

What was the burn time loaded, were you able to sleep without reloading all the time?

I know someone that has a stove like that he made from a 40lb propane bottle, on its side with legs and 2 cooking plates as mentioned. He put 2 in of sand in the bottom and the thing is a heat inferno and burns a fairly long time when fully loaded. Can walk around his wall tent in a t shirt

Thats pretty awesome. thanks for the pics.

What fun
To go winter camping and be warm!

Don't forget the marshmellows!

How long does a loaded stove last?

It looks cool but how well does the smoke vent out the back pipe? From the horizontal design of the can stove, it looks like smoke can come out the front easier than traveling out the back and up the pipe.

I am curious about preventing smoke in the tent as well as carbon monoxide poisoning.

I have a couple of old boyscout tents made out of the same material. Two are like a small baker or half of a wall tent. The other is kind of like an explorer tent. i always wondered how a stove work work in it. The material would seem to work better in the winter that a nylon tent. I like the stove jack as well. I didn't think anyone used tents like that anymore nice to see it up. I suppose you could have just tied a ridge pole across two trees and tied the ends of the tent up to it. Nice setup.

Thanks IA for the pics and Vid!!

A full stove will last 45-60 mins.

The vents on the door allow fresh air to be pulled into the stove. This air is heated and rises. The air mixes and carries the byproducts out the chimney. I have used wood burning stoves for many years and had very few problems.

Great video! How warm does it get compared to outside?

It was 20 out and we had to go down to t-shirts to be comfortable.
