Does anyone use any homemade stropping compounds?

It seems to me that anything that has a slight abrasive formula might work. For example, tooth polish? Watered down Comet cleanser?

Any thoughts?

I don't know, but it wouldnt suprise me one bit if some of that baking soda tooth paste would work alright... Maybe put some on a scrap of bluejeans and there ya go?

i know you can buy diamondpowder/dust. down to 1/4micron or so, or maybe even less

I did a quick google check and those diamond powders are fairly inexpensive. I wonder if you took some type of gel/paste and impregnated it with some diamond powder if that would be a viable compound.

I might have to give one of these places a call and order a sample.

Wadel, I thought the idea was the stropping compound would be abbrasive and increase the efectivness of the strop? Not to lubricate and lift the little metal particals away?

Diamond, Boron carbide/nitride, Linde A etc. mixed with neatsfoot oil, lanolin or some oil/paste that is good for leather ought to work just fine.
