Any of you guys make your own wood stains . I made walnut stain which works pretty good . I made some red stain from beet juice which did not work as well .
It stained well for the first few days and then the stored stain deteriorated .
Does anyone know a way to make a natural red stain for wood ?

Green , black and actually any other color stain would be good as well .

roofing tar and paint thinner makes a great stain....
I guess that would be close to black . Do you mean the thinner stuff that comes in the five gallon buckets or the older product that has to be heated to put on ?

There are some homemade stains listed in the woodworking sites. I tried the black iron stain but it never came out right for me.

Thanks . I always appreciate when these links are accompanied by personal experience . I researched one red stain that used Raspberries as the colorant .
(Like I am going to use such a delicious fruit to adorn my arrows .)L:O:L
I have heard of "Suffering for your art " But that is ridiculous . L:O:L

Kevin When I was a young teen I crushed several handfuls of good juicy green grass into a pulp and added enough water to make it soupy.
Left it sealed in a quart jar for several days and got a really pretty green stain that I used on a wood handled bone knife I had made.  :D Ask any mother about grass stains and you'll find that they can be very difficult to get out of clothes.
