Hi folks,
Today while going through an antique store I saw a hatchet with an old sticker on the handle that read "Indian Fire Hatchet." Is it worth getting? It was $35. Seemed a bit high for a hatchet that would need a little TLC. I am not interested in reselling if I bought it, just wondering if it was "rare" or not. If this has already been cover, I am very sorry and wish you might be able to point me into that direction Sorry I forgot to snap pictures. Thank you all in advance!

There is big chance it is just a replacement handle made by Sequatchie Handle Works. Any maker's marks on axe head?

Hey steeladdict! That's a great point! The makers mark on the head was pretty marred, but I think it matched the sticker. But now that you have brought this up, I am doubting myself. I may have to go by again tomorrow and look! Thank you for the heads up!

Keep in mind that this was the lowest grade handle offered at the time. But the hatchet head itself might be quite good. You need to find out if it has the stamp of a high quality hatchet. Otherwise I'd steer clear of it at that price.

Thank you, square peg! I usually would avoid a hatchet at that price, because I can usually find cheaper that is of quality, but I had not seems the name before (not that that is saying much) and figured it was worth an ask! Thank you again!

Hello! I can't believe it's almost been a full year! I totally forgot that I posted about this hatchet until I saw it yet again in the same antique store! I took better care to look at the head. It is stamped with what I believe to be "HOMESTEAD" MADE IN U.S.A." Any clue on dating of the head? It did not have a "Collins" stamp on it. Thanks in advance!
Please let me know if there are issues viewing the image!
