Hone Bug! Where to buy?

OMG I’ve caught the hone bug! I’ve mostly used King whetstones, some cheap diamond plates as well as a plethora of cheap sharpening stones.

A few weeks ago I ordered a set of Atoma plates. Wow! Honestly I think they could replace all my 1000 grit and under stones. Not that I have a bunch.

In the past I’ve used whatever cheap stone I could find for repares. For fixing knives or flattening stones the Atoma 140 is freaking nice.

I ordered a Shapton Glass 8k it literally just came in the mail 45 min ago. I got it because I wanted to try something different and I’m starting to dabble into straight razors. I don’t really have a “need” for an 8k stone. I’ve also got a Shapton pro 12k coming soon.

However I’m so impressed with this Shapton Glass I’ve already got my mind made up to get a 1K/4K and a 16k. Specifically to set aside for straight razors.

But this really got me thinking. I’ve caught the bug. I’m constantly searching Amazon for new stones to put in my save for later cart.

So besides Amazon anybody have any good websites to order quality stones from? For instance I’d like to get a Naniwa 12k but can’t seem to find it on Amazon. I know about Dave’s for oil stones. I’m also thinking about dabbling in them.

Thanks.

I am not 100% sure, but i don't know if forum rules allow promoting/suggesting websites from companies that are not sponsors or members of Blade Forums, but more informed or moderators will know.

I can't seem to find a list of sponsors anywhere... just some old forum posts that have been removed.

Chef Knives To Go has been an amazing source of Japanese Water Stones for years. They have a pretty darned nice selection. I think they are a forum sponsor, but I can't remember and as I said, I can't find a list so I can try to verify.

Brian.

You might trying ordering direct from the manufacturer, although I doubt you'd get any price break.

Is it so bad if we post the names (not the links) of retailers? It could be a good use of the forum to help people benefit from our individual shopping experience and knowledge. Maybe save someone some money.

I’m just super hesitant to order online from web sights. I’ve been ripped off before. I try to do my research. I’m more worried about bank information being stolen than I am I received a sub par product ect.

Have had very good luck ordering from "Sharpening Supplies".
In person at my local Woodcraft or other woodworking stores in the area, my local ACE for basic combination stones.

In the traditional forum there is a stickie that has a link to sponsoring dealers. I tried to copy and past her but alas I failed
