Honemaster?

My dad just gave me a buck knives Honemaster a few seconds ago...any info on this thing? it looks old:D


edit to add, tried it on a few of my knives that match the angle, works great, cheacke bucks site, they don't sell the any more, :confused: Its great though, realy works good on bucks, the angles match perfectly:D its alittle big though, looks like it was made for large fixed blades:D what a great early christmas present...:D
 
The "Buck Honemaster" is my favorite sharpening guide. Fortunately I was able to pick up a couple when I learned they were to be discontinued several years ago. I modify mine by removing the corners so that the length of the edge that grips the blade is about one and three quarters inches instead of three inches. This modification allows it to be used on a variety of blade lengths.
 
howefd you do that? I also noticed that it was hard to sharpen short blades with it
 
Unfortunately I have no means to provide a photograph. I hope my attempt at description is understandable. I used a dremel, but a hacksaw and file will work. Mark the bottom edge 5/8 " in from each side. Make a mark on each side edge 1/2" up from the bottom edge. Connect the marks and then remove the triangular piece on each corner. HTH
