I seem to be in love with Benchmade Apparition - but have never seen on in person!! How good of a knife is it? Please people that actually have one please let me know before I blow $110! Thanks

I'm BIG on assisted openers I own or owned most out there. Kershaw is my favorite. Then I bought Apparition. Its fast and well made. It has a nice weight to it. The spring is removable. Nice file work on it. I bought mine at GPknives. GO for it.

I read the other thread too, but didn't see what I'm looking for.

I'm a bit confused about the 30 degree thing. My other assisted openers and others I've handled seem to open as soon as there's a bit of pressure on the thumb stud or flipper. 30 degrees seems to be a lot before the blade moves on it's own. Is this different than the Kershaw, Buck, or Camillus made assisted's?

The only problems I have with mine.

I wish it was a clip or drop point, but IMHO, I think it would screw up the symmetry of the knife. Second, I would like to have real african buffalo horn scales on it.

Having said that, I still have no real problems with it. It's a great gentlemans knife, it is scary sharp, and looks like it could take a lot of abuse. I also like the option of going from assisted opener to regular linerlock, and I've used those allen wrenches to modify my other folders. I had a good time even changing the clip placement of my M1613! I also like the black Benchmade bag provided with each folder. I think my Apparition is the only knife I own that I still store inside the box! The only knife I cherish more is a Buck 110 damascus stag handle, one of the customs.

I had a Griptilian 550S, CE, pre production, and that just wasn't me. I got a 530 CE in a trade, and that wasn't me either. But the Apparition got me interested in BM knives. I've got the 2005 catalog out in my truck right now, and can't wait to read it!

Just be prepared to buy more BM's after you get the Apparition. I'm looking at getting these: Benchmade Activator, Gamer, Nimravus, Nimravus Cub, mini Skirmish, Outbounder, 5000 Auto.

I held it at a show, asn it was OK. The assisted opening was nice and fast, but the plastic scales felt cheap, and the liner lock was thin. If you had some custom scales in a nice exotic wood made up, it would ba an awesomeknife.

I think the 670 is a winner !
It's the size and shape I was looking for a long time.
And I have lots of others BMs and Spydercos, but this one got me.
I sent it to work now, to change the original plastic scales to a handmade ebony ones. I just can't wait to get it back... ;)

As soon I get my hands on it I'll post some pics.

My opinion is GO FOR IT !
You won't regret.

Where did you send it off to get custom scales?

Hi,

First of all, I live in Brazil...

The guy I sent the 670 is a well known artist in woodcraft here in São Paulo. His name is Schmatz. You can take a look at his web site: www.schmatzcustom.com.br

The guy is good !
