Hey Guys, I'm new to the site and its a great place to learn and share. I've read some posts on this topic and this info may be helpful. About a year ago I bought a "Wet/Dry Sharpener" made by "Task Force" at Lowes for around $30. The stone is appr. 2" wide and 5" dia. It turns SLOW and does'nt eat up your blades. The stone is also mounted such that the bottom half of it is resting in a small water reservoir. Water flows over the stone as it turns and keeps it clean. I've sharpened everything in my neighborhood and can't wait to find or buy something else to sharpen with it. Iv'e got a pic. of it saved on my computer, but I don't know how to transport it yet to here. You can see it at Lowe's site. I think they may have gone up a couple of dollars by now but I think you will agree it is a fine investment.

Checked it out, looks pretty handy. $33, not bad for a good sharpener. It specs a 150 grit stone @ 170 rpm. How good a finish does it give you? I think something a little finer would be nice, but what I'd like to hear you think.

Its great for putting the bevel you want on about any knife. (Its not a lawn mower blade or axe sharpener). I like the very slow speed (if your careful you can get a consistent bevel all the way down a blade... if your real steady you can get nearbout a factory bevel) and the stone moving through water. Maybe you can get finer stones for it. I think I'll try to contact Task Force and see. I've sharpened everything from thin machetes to kitchen paring knives on it. On most of these I use em like the machine leaves em. If I need a finer edge I free hand with stones. I have a "Lansky" type kit, I only use when really needed. Most knives I collect I use, or leave the factory edge on them still in the box.
