My first knife.
Loving it so far.
Got better blanks now.
will post pics of other micarta knives soon.

Very nice. What do you cut your micarta with ?
I've trashed blades on my band saw cutting canvas micarta.
Are you the canmanstan from e-bay with all the micarta ?
Nice knife,
Mike

Yes I am, and thank you.
Canvas can normally be cut with normal wood cutting blades. You may need to go up in teeth count per inch.
Other phenolics require a dry cutting diamond blade or a WET SAW works good on hard phenolics, not canvas. I only use normal carbide blades to cut canvas in the table saw and bandsaw.

Great knife canmanstan!
And thanks for the wet saw idea. I am going to try it tonight on some jade green micarta i had bought from you a few months ago. I was scared to try to cut it with a carbide blade in my table saw.
You ougth to post pics of your knives with your listings of the same color, so we can see what the finished product looks like exactly. Its hard to tell from a blank sometimes.
And i want some of that YELLOW, it is killer, i have never seen micarta in this shade of yellow before, mostly just the xxx paper base yellows.
Good job!

i have a band saw but can't seem to keep in straight line.
is it possible i need a new blade,or a smaller width blade?
i am really wanting to make a fixed blade.
thanks,and that is a nice looking knife.

A sharp bandsaw blade is definately needed, especially if this block is thick. I assume you are asking about cutting Canvas right? I think a wider width blade will do better, because it creates a larger kerf cut and less heat. With the right blade this stuff cuts like butter. Also check to see if your blade tension is not too loose, and your upper and lower blade guides may need adjusting to keep the blade pointed straight. A sharp blade definatlly helps.

A special blade is needed to cut epoxy resin phenolics on a bandsaw, it is a heavily coated diamond dry cutting blade. But can also be cut with a wet saw or on a table saw with a dry cutting diamond coated table saw blade.

Wet saw worked great with no burning whatsoever. Thanks again Canmanstan. I will be buying some of this yellow micarta this week from you. I only hope it looks as good as yours does.
