Just saw this video and thought I'd post it. What do you guys think of this? Have any of you tried this?

I do the coffee cup thing a lot (prefer the bottom of a bowl, actually). Dont see why the window thing wouldnt work, but havent tried it. Yet.

Older truck window works better with a rougher edge. The smoother new edges don't work as well in my experience.

Might not work on modern super steels. ZDP-189, depending on the heat treatment, can scratch the glass...

Especially for Spyderco ZDP owners

I've to admit that I've been using the bottom of ceramic cups for my Victorinox before knives became a hobby.

Yes, if the top of the car window is frosted it will work for bringing back that "little extra". I did it the other day on an old Western fixed blade to show my dad

That is why I like 8cr or vg 10

Car windows work fine. At home, use the edge of a glass baking dish, pie plate, measuring cup, etc. as a touch-up before starting the prep work for dinner. Anything that says "Pyrex" on the bottom, or is made to go into the oven, is made from borosilicate glass, and works better than a metal 'Butcher's Steel' for kitchen knives.

Wow thanks for the great tip. Never would've thought that using your window could sharpen your knife.

Sorry for the double post

Car window is NOT a good idea. Reason: The glass is tempered. If you scratch it, the window WILL shatter. Much safer (and cheaper, if it breaks) to use a glass bottle, or just get a ceramic rod or three.
